The first official loft on a PHG&AS site is now nearing completion on the plot of keen pigeon fancier and Derrell Road tenant, Tom. The birds, which Thomas has reared from eggs and are of excellent, racing pedigree, are set to be housed in May.
Pigeons and allotments go hand in hand, with many fancy and homing pigeons being kept on sites throughout the country. Many plotholders still think that a well kept homer or fancy will nibble away at their brassicas just like wood pigeons do. This is absolute nonsense and no birds from a PHG&AS Pigeon Hill loft will be seen on anyone cabbage patch. The same can be said for the doves that often frequent our sites.
There is nothing quite like a homing pigeon in flight. Its speed and sleek of flight and the whoosh of air as it speeds overhead. Just look out for the birds over the coming months and see for yourself, and log on again for further updates from Pigeon Hill.
