Paignton Home Garden and Allotment Society Annual General Meeting will be held on October 3.
The meeting will be held from 7.30pm in the RAOB club in New Street, Paignton. The society will elect a new board including chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer. All current officers, except for the secretary, will be standing for re-election. All members are welcome to stand for election to any of the posts. The meeting will also discuss vital matters for the future of the society, including contract terms, rents and the constitution. All are welcome to attend and all members will be able to vote on matters raised. Anyone wishing to stand for a post can make their intentions know by filling in a form on the noticeboards at any of the three allotment sites. A NUMBER of problems have been highlighted with the sites managed by Paignton Allotment and Home Garden Society after an inspection visit by the master landlord.
An inspector from Torbay Council visited the three sites run by the society in August and highlighted a number of concerns. The inspector found problems at both Derrell Road and Oakleigh St Michaels, but was satisfied with Lower Penns. The council has asked the society to tighten up procedures for reclaiming and redistributing dirty and unused plots. One plot, which has been fenced off behind a locked gate, will have to be opened up, the inspector said. Other plots have areas set aside for parking - one with a hardcore parking area. The council has asked for these to be removed. The society is already in the process of putting in place better monitoring of plots and in the last two months has sent a number of letters to plotholders asking them to take action. A number of plots have been reclaimed and work is ongoing to hand them over to new plotholders. The September meeting of the allotment society heard that, if dissatisfied with the running of the sites, the council could hand the lease over to another management body. This would be likely to be Tor2, which currently runs other allotments in the bay for the council. The meeting was told action is being taken to bring all three sites up to standard. |
